 2016 Preview 


       Evangel Christian Alabaster completed the 2015 season with a 11-1 record. Last year Evangel Christian Alabaster captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 8 Man playoffs. They finished region play with a 3-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Lightning.

       No team at Evangel Christian Alabaster ever won more games in a season than the eleven victories last year. The 653 points scored by the Lightning last year were a team record in a single season.

       Over the past two seasons the Lightning have gone 22-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Evangel Christian Alabaster has gone a combined 60-14. Their 81.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 8 Man over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 12 seasons, Evangel Christian Alabaster has gone a combined 110-31. Their 78.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 8 Man and 1st in the . Their last losing season was 2006.

       The Lightning are led by head coach Don Murphy who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 23-3 over the past two seasons at Evangel Christian Alabaster. Under his direction the Lightning have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach . Coach led Evangel Christian Alabaster to a state championship in 2015.

       Coach 's overall record as a head football coach in eleven season stands at 66-47 (58.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach 's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times and won one region championship.

       The Evangel Christian Alabaster Lightning will play in Class 8 Man region one during the 2016 season.

       Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier.

       The Lightning enter the 2016 season riding a 11 game winning streak. They have also won 9 consecutive regular season games. While most teams rebuild during the off season, Evangel Christian Alabaster has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season.

       The Lightning open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Fort Dale Academy on Friday, August 26 at Hoover Central Park. Last year the Fort Dale Academy Eagles finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class AAA region one. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs to Bessemer Academy by a score of 47-0.

       This will be the first meeting between Evangel Christian Alabaster and Fort Dale Academy on the football field.
